Background and Experience
Monte H. Machit is a trial lawyer who has practiced law since 1989. He has tried cases in both state and federal courts, and has tried over seventy cases to verdict throughout his career. He joined the City Attorney’s Office in 2002 and is currently an Assistant City Attorney, supervising the Office’s Litigation Section. Mr. Machit’s practice involves municipal litigation in both state and federal courts, and includes the defense of the City and City employees in civil rights litigation, public tort claims, contract disputes and allegations of employment discrimination.
Before joining the City Attorney’s Office, Mr. Machit was a trial lawyer and partner in a Long Beach law firm specializing in the defense of personal injury claims for major insurance carriers and large self-insured clients throughout California.
Mr. Machit is a member of the State Bar of California, the Southern California Defense Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the Long Beach Bar Association.
Mr. Machit graduated from Loyola Law School in 1989 and received a B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University, Long Beach in 1979. Mr. Machit also holds a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
