Forecast ‘Still Upbeat’
“Still upbeat” is the phrase of choice for small business optimism levels in 2018, according to the Long Beach Small Business Expectations Index published annually by California State University, Long Beach.
“Our Small Business Expectations Index today is 65, (which is) virtually the same as last year, and well above 50 points (indicating positive expectations for small business),” according to researchers. “General feelings about the direction of the Long Beach economy are only slightly lower today with most small business owners feeling the local economy will continue to improve or remain good in 2018.”
The results were based on surveys of 300 small business people selected at random — and representing companies with 50 or fewer employees. Professionally trained interviewers, led by CSULB professor Scott Flexo, contacted those chosen to receive calls for the survey.
CSULB has conducted the survey for the past six years.
