As we begin to near the end of the year, we hope that you have been following along and have almost finished putting together your emergency kits. We know many people rely heavily on their phones and have applications for everything. In the event of a power outage, you won't be able to charge your cell phones, which means all those applications are useless. Instead of relying on your phone to light your way, having a flashlight is a much more dependable source of light. This month's item is a flashlight.
Here are some things to consider when purchasing flashlights:
Make sure to include extra batteries for the flashlights
Consider having alternative sources of light such as candles, lantern, or light sticks
Consider buying a flashlight for each family member to keep by their bed
Keep a flashlight at your workplace, as well as in your car
Remember to Build Your Kit, Long Beach (#BYKLB #LBKIT #LBREADY) in 2013 (or update the one you already have)! Being properly prepared will allow you and your loved ones to be well equipped to survive up to 72 hours after a disaster since officials and relief workers will not be able to get to everyone immediately after a diaster.
