If you have a Christmas tree, recycling it is easy. You can drop it off at one of the drop off locations shown in the link below, or, if you have Long Beach Refuse service, you can put it out where your trash is normally collected by 7 a.m. on Saturday, January 11th and it will be picked up.

Long Beach achieved full pension reform with all City employees in 2013. This historic pension reform is expected to save Long Beach an estimated $250 million through 2024, including $130 million in savings to the General Fund. Long Beach is the largest CalPERS city to achieve this milestone.

The Belmont Plaza Pool The New Belmont Pool
At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, the City Council approved Councilmember DeLong's motion to rebuild the Belmont Pool using Tidelands funds.  The plan will approximately double the amount of pool space that the facility presently has (from 18,000 square feet to 36,000 square feet) and will fully accommodate all levels of recreational swimming, competitive swimmers, divers and water polo players.

Long Beach Firefighters are again sponsoring the Spark of Love Toy Drive. Over the past two decades, the Spark of Love Toy Drive has successfully collected more than seven million toys. The campaign collects new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for needy children and teens in our community.

This year, toy collection boxes can be found in Belmont Shore outside of Fire Station # 8 at 5365 East Second Street.

Bless the Pets! Interfaith Blessing of the Animals in Long Beach
BRING YOUR PETS! More than 300 animals are expected to attend the 11th annual "Interfaith Blessing of the Animals" at sunset this Sat., Oct. 6, 2012, on the concrete boat launch ramp at Granada Ave. in Belmont Shore, next to Rosie's Dog Beach. It's one of the largest blessings of pets in the world. The Blessing is put on by Justin Rudd's nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT) which includes Haute Dogs. The event is co-sponsored by your Councilmember Gary DeLong. 

The event is always free to the public and their pets. Special guests in the past included horses, ponies, an alpaca, goats, sheep, rabbits, and chickens. Seniors, families, singles, and children, were encouraged to bring their dogs, cats, birds, lizards, rabbits, pot-bellied pigs, fish, tortoises and turtles and other well-behaved pets.

News Image Eliminating Business License Taxes for Real Estate Agents
Councilmember DeLong, in conjunction with 1st District Councilmember Robert Garcia and Vice Mayor/ 2nd District Councilmember Suja Lowenthal, are sending a recommendation to the City Manager at the June 19, 2012 City Council meeting to request that the City Manager's office determine the feasibility of eliminating individual business license fees for real estate agents in the City of Long Beach and replacing this fee with a reduced "per employee" fee to the broker. They will request that the City Manager report back to the City Council within the next 30 days.
