The community is invited to participate in the "Welcome to Cambodia Town" mural project kick-off. Hosted by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, the event will be held on Saturday, April 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The mural will be located at 1350 East Anaheim Street at Mahanna.
The mural’s design will be unveiled at 10:00 a.m. Long Beach artist Guillermo Avalos designed the mural, and community members of all ages have volunteered to help paint. Community members who would also like to help prepare the mural wall and paint are asked to come "dressed to paint!" Sign-in for artist assistants will begin at 9:30 a.m., and refreshments will be provided for the assistants.
A graduate of Wilson High School, Mr. Avalos has created five other mural projects for Parks, Recreation and Marine Community Recreation Services and the Community Development Neighborhood Services Bureau. Some of his other projects include: "Paseo de las Mariposas" at 1892 Fashion Avenue and "Bixby Park History Mural" at 130 Cherry Avenue.
This event is open to the public and provides a safe, creative project for participants. For more information about the mural project, or to sign up, please contact Cultural Program Supervisor Heather Green at (562) 570-1786.
