Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for Orizaba Park Expansion and Community Center

The office of 4th District City Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell, the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine invite the public to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion and renovation of Orizaba Park on Saturday, November 20 at 9 a.m. Orizaba Park is located at Orizaba Avenue and 14th Street in Long Beach.

The current size of Orizaba Park is 2.62 acres. The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency (RDA) has invested $3.7 million to acquire four adjacent blighted industrial properties to add 1.1 acres, to provide a total of 3.72 acres of open space to expand the park.

The project will expand the park and create a new community garden.  New open turf areas, landscaping, ball courts, walking paths and picnic tables will complete the project and provide much needed recreational amenities in the area. In a second phase, a new community center will be constructed.

According to 4th District Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell, “The park expansion, along with the new community center and community gardens, will provide enhanced recreational opportunities.  The youth from the Freeman Youth Center will move to the new community center and I look forward to also offering services for adults and senior citizens. “
