The Friends of Long Beach Animals Pet Appreciation Fair and WALK for the Animals will be held on Saturday, October 8 at the El Dorado East Regional Park Archery Range located at 7550 East Spring Street in Long Beach. Check-in and registration begin at 9 a.m., and walks begin at 10 a.m.
The event is co-sponsored by the Friends of Long Beach Animals and the Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marineís Animal Care Services Bureau to help fund low-cost spay/neutering and humane education programs and to provide medical attention for shelter animals. The 2K and 5K Walks will wind through picturesque parkland over dedicated concrete paths that are an easy stroll for both humans and dogs of all ages and abilities.
The entry fee for individual walkers and teams of up to 12 is $25 per person before October 8 ($30 on October 8). The fee includes a commemorative T-shirt, a swag bag, and a raffle ticket. The top fundraising and team prizes for the WALK include a private harbor cruise, a six-month membership to the Belmont Athletic Club, a $150 gift certificate for the Madison Restaurant on Pine Avenue, Disneyland tickets, a bowling party and other great prizes.
The Long Beach Police Departmentís Blue Steel Band will provide the entertainment, and food will be available. Fly ball agility demonstrations and a childrenís activity area will round out the activities and ensure that the entire family will have a great day.
Participants and spectators can visit animal-product and service vendors and exhibits to learn more about their pets and adoption programs. The monthly Animal Care Services Low Cost Vaccination Clinic will also take place at the WALK event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and offer convenient vaccination and microchip service.
