The 12th Annual Pet Appreciation Fair and Walk for the Animals, presented by the Petco Foundation, will be held on Saturday, October 13 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at El Dorado East Regional Park—Archery Range, 7550 Spring St. (at the 605 freeway) in Long Beach. The event is co-sponsored by Friends of Long Beach Animals and Long Beach Animal Care Services to help fund low-cost spay/neuter, medical attention for special needs of shelter animals, and humane education.
Walk a 2K or 5K walk route with or without a dog, in memory of a beloved pet or in honor of your cat. Routes wind through acres of picturesque parkland over a dedicated concrete walking path suitable for humans and dogs of all ages and abilities.
Prizes will be awarded to top fund-raisers in Adult, Junior and Team divisions. All event participants and spectators will be treated to exhibits, vendor samples, performances from Surf City Flyball and Disc Dogs of Southern California, contests for pets and their people, and live entertainment. Food trucks will be rolling in, and kids will enjoy activities especially for them. There will be a special appearance from the Super Smiley Flash Mob 4 Pet Adoption group, winner of The Awareness Film Festival Visionary Award and Film Festival Flix Regional Competition. The Flash Mob was created by actress Megan Blake and Super Smiley, Spokes-Dog for Throwaways, and features a troupe of buddies. Long Beach Animal Care Services will be on hand with adoptable animals, and attendees can "Ask the Vet" and “Ask the Trainer” about their animal care questions.
The parade grand marshal will be Shoestring City Ranch, a non-profit organization that provides free & low cost rural experiences to city youth while teaching teamwork, respect, and leadership skills in an ecologically friendly green-space working with rescued animals.
Check-in and registration begin at 9 a.m.; the walks start at 10:15 a.m. immediately following opening ceremonies.

Entry fee for walkers through October 12, including teams, is $25 for adults 19 and over and includes a commemorative T-shirt, a swag bag, a raffle ticket and a parking pass ($7 value) Top fundraisers will be awarded prizes. There are also special discounted rates for families, junior walkers (ages 10–18) and virtual walkers. Walkers under 9 are free. Registration the day of the event increases to $30 and does not include parking.
