Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Invites Residents to "Stay and Play" in Long Beach

 This summer there are hundreds of free or low cost activities offered by Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Maine, the Long Beach Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and local museums and businesses, that are captured on www.100daysofsummer.org. The site details summer activities happening every day from Memorial Day to Labor Day in Long Beach. Get together with your family and friends and enjoy one of these great upcoming events:

Free Concerts

The Long Beach Municipal Band is back for it's 104th season this summer.  The band will present "The Voices" with musical sounds made famous by acclaimed celebrity voices of our generation.  Enjoy Nicole Kubis as she returns to perform with the studio band. July 23, Bluff Park; July 24, Los Cerritos Park; July 25, Marine Stadium; and July 26, El Dorado Park West. Enjoy Big Band Sounds during "Swing's the Thing" week. Relax or get up and dance to the nostalgic music of the famous swing era.  Our closing guest artist is the sensational Meloney Collins.  July 31, Los Cerritos Park;

August 1, Marine Stadium; August 2; and El Dorado Park West. All shows are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. The Municipal Band is sponsored by Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine, Partners of Parks, Long Beach Gas & Oil, the Long Beach Environmental Services Bureau and the Port of Long Beach.

Enjoy a picnic by the lake at El Dorado Nature Center's summer concert series. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.; concerts held from 7-8 p.m. $3 per person; under age 12. Come out and enjoy the Calypso sounds of Steel Parade on July 25.

The Rancho Los Cerritos historic site will offer the contemporary jazz sounds of Anne Walsh on July 28. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. for picnicking. Concerts held from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Free.

Free Movies in the Park

"Movies in the Park" sponsored by Signal Hill Petroleum in cooperation with Partners of Parks offers free outdoor family friendly films. We provide the movie, popcorn and pre-show fun, and you bring a lawn chair, blanket, picnic dinner, and family and friends. Movies subject to change. Be sure to see the "Wreck it Ralph" on July 22 at Pan American, 5157 Centralia;  July 24 at College Estates Park, 808 Stevely Avenue and July 26 at Houghton Park, 6301 Myrtle Avenue.  "Escape from Plant Earth" will screen on July 29 at Seaside Park, 14th Street and Chestnut Avenue; July 31 at MacArthur Park, 1321 Anaheim Street, and August 2 at Heartwell Park. 5801 E. Long Beach Sea Festival

The Long Beach Sea Festival is three months of fun in the sun! Visit www.lbseafest.com for schedule.

Catalina Ski RaceWater ski teams from around the world will ski from the Queen Mary to Avalon and back using boats from 20 to 40 foot in length. The fastest teams can finish the round trip in less than 1 hour, but most will be done in less than 2 hours. The race will take place Saturday, July 20, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at South Shore Launch Ramp, 590 Queensway Drive. For more information, visit www.catalinaskirace.net.

Movies at Granada Beach: Movies start at Dusk. FREE. Come out and watch "Harry Potter" on July 23, "Top Gun" on July 24 and  “Jack & the Giant Slayer” on July 30.

 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival: Enjoy one of China’s most ancient festival traditions, colorfully decorated boats races. Oriental cultural craft exhibitions on July 28 and 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Marine Stadium Free to spectators. Visit: http://www.lbdragonboat.com.
