The Long Beach Municipal Band will celebrate its 105th season in summer 2014. Join the Fun on October 20 at Bliss 525 Restaurant from 5-8 p.m.
The success of this beloved Long Beach institution in recent years has reflected the support of the community and the efforts of the non-profit Partners of Parks, an organization that has supported public parks, recreation and marine programs and facilities in the City of Long Beach for over 27 years.
Partners of Parks will once again support fundraising for the band, and begin its efforts with a special event on October 20. The public will have the opportunity to enjoy an evening with Conductor Larry Curtis and fellow band fans from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bliss 525 Restaurant at 525 E. Broadway in downtown Long Beach. Guests can sample hors du oeuvres, enjoy a no host bar and live music, and get a jump on holiday shopping at an exciting silent auction.
The Long Beach Municipal Band is the oldest and most distinguished, municipally supported band in the country. Since 1909, the Long Beach Municipal Band has been appreciated locally and around the world. Present conductor Larry Curtis continues a tradition of musical excellence established by such notable conductors as the famous Sousa cornet player Herbert L. Clarke and composer J. J. Richards. The Band's personnel include the best of Southern California's symphony, jazz and studio recording artists. This diversity of talent provides Long Beach audiences with impressive concerts of jazz, movie, Broadway, popular, and light classical music.
