Original News Release (4/25/2016):

On Monday April 25, 2016, at approximately 1:17 a.m., officers were dispatched to an attempt suicide call in the area of East 7th Street and Redondo Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult pedestrian.

The call indicated a male subject was jumping in front of traffic, in an attempt to be hit, and eventually lied down in the roadway. A moment later, officers were notified that the individual was struck by a vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious male adult, who was not breathing, in the 3600 block of 7th Street. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics determined the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was in the roadway, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a white 4-door sedan.

The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The vehicle and driver remain outstanding. A possible suspect vehicle is described as a 2006-2010 white Chrysler 300. The investigation remains ongoing.
