Bay Shore Neighborhood Library Adds Sunday Hours for a Six-Month Pilot Program
Glenda Williams
Director of Library Services
Long Beach Library

The community is invited to celebrate the addition of Sunday hours at the Bay Shore Neighborhood Library, 195 Bay Shore Ave. on Sunday, February 22, at 1:00 pm. The six-month pilot program to open and offer a full array of library services on Sundays, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, beginning February 22, and is funded through Council District 3 non-recurring funds.

"It's terrific news that we’ve been able to expand access at this great neighborhood library," said Mayor Robert Garcia. “Libraries are essential resources for our community, and I know families will really appreciate the additional hours.”

The ocean-themed kickoff event will feature a special children’s storytime and crafts area, and the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Aquarium on Wheels. The Bay Shore Neighborhood Library features regular storytimes and book clubs, special events, computer access, a Family Learning Center and a community room.

“I am extremely pleased that we can open Bay Shore Neighborhood Library on Sundays,” said Councilwoman Suzie Price. “Visiting this community treasure is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, while also fostering a lifelong love of learning and imagining.”

“Long Beach has seen an increase in the demand for library services, especially in recent years,” said Glenda Williams, Director of Library Services. “Job seekers, students and families continue to clamor for assistance with computer use, Wi-Fi services, literacy programs and access to books and media checkout. The Library is thrilled to launch this six-month pilot program.”
