Deputy City Manager to Serve as Acting Airport Director
Today, City Manager Patrick H. West appointed Deputy City Manager
Reginald "Reggie" Harrison to the position of Acting Airport
Director. Mr. Harrison will serve as Acting Director while
the City undertakes a nationwide search for a new Airport
Director. Mario Rodriguez, the City's former Airport
Director, resigned from the City today to take a new job as
Executive Director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. Mr.
Rodriguez announced his resignation in April 2014.
“Reggie has a proven history of stepping in to provide
management and leadership skills whenever necessary” said Mr.
West. “The Airport will be in good hands and continue
to provide excellent service as we conduct our nationwide
Deputy City Manager Harrison has an extensive history with the
City. Mr. Harrison was appointed Deputy City Manager of the
City of Long Beach in February 2001. Prior to this appointment, Mr.
Harrison served as the City's Housing Authority Bureau Manager,
Economic Development Bureau Manager and Acting Director of the
Community Development Department. In 2009, the City Manager
appointed him Acting Director of Development Services. Mr. Harrison
currently oversees the Department of Emergency Communications and
Disaster Preparedness. Mr. Harrison also has the benefit of a
25-year military career; he is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, from
the California Army National Guard. Mr. Harrison has a
Master’s Degree in Business Administration and an
undergraduate degree in Psychology. He resides in Long Beach, where
he is an active participant in the community and a member of
several boards and commissions.
Mr. Harrison will continue his duties in overseeing the Department
of Emergency Communications and Disaster Preparedness in addition
to serving as Acting Airport Director. The City expects to
select an Airport Director before the end of the year.
