The public is invited to attend a Grand Opening ceremony for the first phase of the greenbelt improvement project along the Pacific Electric Right of Way (PE Right of Way) on Saturday, September 10, at 4:30 pm. The free celebration with musical entertainment and refreshments is at the greenbelt between 7th and 8th Streets near Roswell Avenue.

“These improvements will enhance the neighborhood and provide a perfect place for the community to relax and enjoy the outdoors,” said Mayor Robert Garcia.

The improvements include a 10-foot-wide decomposed granite pathway, native and drought tolerant trees and shrubs, an irrigation system, benches and natural seating areas, trash cans and dog waste disposal bag dispensers.

“These greenbelt improvements are a wonderful example of an unused area being transformed into much needed recreational open space,” said Councilwoman Suzie Price. “Residents can walk, bike or just relax in the beautifully landscaped setting.”

The improvements are the first completed project of the PE Right of Way South Master Plan, for the development of the former Pacific Electric Red Car rail line into an area with recreational amenities.
