Long Beach Airport (LGB) has been named a Top 10 airport in the United States by readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine
for the second consecutive year. LGB has enjoyed a national reputation as a progressive airport, providing a first-class experience for all travelers, which Condé Nast referenced in awarding it a place on the esteemed list once again.
“The Long Beach Airport continues to provide a unique, convenient and comfortable travel experience to thousands of people every day,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “The airport is economically vital to our entire region, and this kind of acclaim shows that we are making an impression nationally.”
Condé Nast voters cited the glamour of the historic main terminal, along with the easygoing nature of the passenger concourse, which made LGB stand out among its peers.
“We’re extremely delighted that LGB was selected based on its unique and local travel experience worthy of distinction,” said Councilwoman Stacy Mungo. “This recognition from readers and travelers alike speaks to the true jewel we have as a community in our airport.”
Among the other honorees on the list were three Long Beach Airport destinations: Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Portland International Airport (PDX).
“We are honored to have been so favorably reviewed by our passengers, whom we strive to serve to the best of our ability each and every day,” said Airport Director Bryant L. Francis, C.M. “Being named to this esteemed list is a reflection of the passionate work of the dedicated employees who contribute to the customer experience. Their expertise and professionalism leaves me confident that Long Beach Airport consistently provides an enviable and unique atmosphere at our welcoming and inviting Southern California gateway.”
The Condé Nast Traveler list, The Best and Worst Airports in America: Readers’ Choice Awards 2015, comes during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, a time when Long Beach Airport emphasizes a relaxed and convenient environment, even as large crowds and hectic schedules may be common elsewhere. In another step toward providing a comfortable space for all guests, Long Beach Airport recently opened two Mother’s Rooms that are equipped to accommodate breastfeeding mothers.
The holiday season is celebrated at LGB with an assortment of wreaths and lights adorning the historic main terminal, as well as Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa displays welcoming travelers and the public in the Meeter Greeter Plaza. Visitors who enjoy the decorations are encouraged to post photos to social media, using the hashtag #MerryLGB.About Long Beach Airport
Founded in 1923 as the first municipally-owned airport in California, Long Beach Airport (LGB) recently completed a revitalization to update its facilities. In 2012, a new passenger concourse opened to the public and has since garnered extensive praise for its modern design and architecture, local eateries and easygoing travel experience. Recently, both Fodor’s Travel Guide and Yahoo Travel named LGB one of the top 10 terminals in the world. LGB offers non-stop service to several U.S. cities, and supports a healthy general aviation community with nearly 300,000 annual operations. The airport is also a source of substantial economic activity and employment, as well as a leader in maintaining a sustainable, environmentally-responsible operation.
