New Traffic Signal Activation at Atlantic Avenue and 51st Street
Jennifer Carey
Department of Public Works

The community is invited to help activate new traffic signals and LED safety lights at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 51st Street on Tuesday, October 25, at 11:00 am.

“The addition of this traffic signal will improve walkability in the neighborhood, access to public transportation, and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists,” said Councilmember Al Austin II. “This new traffic signal is the result of the persistent efforts of many residents, including seniors from Carmelitos and the adjacent neighborhood, raising concerns about the need for a safer intersection.”

The area is also home to Atlantic Plaza Park, the Growing Experience Urban Farm Stand, and the Carmelitos Kindergarten Head Start Program.

The LED safety lights will provide increased visibility and safety.

The intersection is within the boundaries of the future Daisy Avenue Bike Boulevard Project, which will span 9.5 miles between Downtown and North Long Beach, connecting numerous schools, parks, libraries, and bus stops.
