From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Long Beach will offer hundreds of free or low cost cultural programs, sports activities and special events throughout the City. "100 Days of Summer" is a partnership among Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine and the Long Beach Convention and Visitor's Bureau to promote opportunities to "stay and play" in Long Beach.
"100 Days of Summer is full of fun and exciting events right here in Long Beach," Mayor Robert Garcia said. "You and your family can enjoy hundreds of wonderful activities, including movies, concerts, sports, camps and lasses all summer long."
To get things started, "Pop Vinyl" will perform a free concert at Marine Stadium, on Appian Way between Second and Colorado Streets, on Friday, May 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Pop Vinyl will get the audience dancing and singing along to a playlist spanning five decades of “up-beat, rug-cutting” hits by Aretha, Beyonce, Michael, Justin, RUN-DMC, Timbaland, The Bee Gees, Bell Biv Devoe, Donna Summer, Madonna and more.
The fun will begin at 5:00 pm with a Kids Zone leading up to the free concert at 6:00 pm. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners and relax on the lawn for a great evening of family fun. Several food trucks will be available.
Starting May 22, www.100daysofsummer.org
will provide great ideas for fun without having to travel far or spend a lot of money. Listings will include free concerts and movies; Long Beach Sea Festival events; the El Dorado Nature Center; Rancho Los Cerritos and Rancho Los Alamitos historic sites; ideas for spontaneous fun like biking, golf, tennis, kayaking swimming; free drop-in youth and teen programs and much more.
