The City of Long Beach is looking for volunteers to help conduct its Eighth Annual Bike Count, on Sunday, October 18, 2015, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Participants can choose a convenient site from among 30 locations throughout the City, and will be provided gift certificates and other “thank you” gifts.

The bike counts help improve the safety and livability of the City by evaluating the effectiveness of projects, and providing supporting data for grant applications. With consistent data from year to year, the counts provide important metrics to the City regarding safety, capacity, ridership trends, and the value of our investments.

The City has experienced steady and dramatic increases in bicycle ridership alongside its investment in an expanding bikeways network. The 30 sites for the 2015 count are along upcoming project routes, areas identified for safety improvement, and sites we have consistently counted in the past.
