History of the Olympic Games in Long Beach

Long Beach has a rich history with the Olympic Games dating back over 90 years, having hosted Olympic sporting events in 1932 and 1984, Olympic Trials in 1968 and 1976 at the Belmont Pool, and Olympic Trials again in 2004 at the Long Beach Convention Center. The City is thrilled for the Games to return to the California coast in summer 2028.

Long Beach’s Vision for 2028 Games

The City of Long Beach seeks to maximize the City’s international profile as a Venue City during the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The City will pursue opportunities to gain international recognition, encourage investment, promote economic development and enhance community benefit. This requires a focus on ensuring a well-organized, safe Games experience, and a commitment to celebrating the richness and diversity of Long Beach.
