Qualifications
To become an Election Worker in Los Angeles County, you must be:
- 18 years of age or older (unless participating in the Student Election Worker Program)
- A U.S. citizen and registered to vote in California OR a Legal Permanent Resident

REGISTER TO VOTE
The Office of the City Clerk is committed to making the voter registration process accessible and convenient.
There are several ways to register to vote:
- Online: Visit the California Secretary of State’s webiste.
- In Person or by Mail: Pick up a voter registration form at City Hall (1st Floor Lobby, 411 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802). Completed forms may be mailed—no postage is required.

Voter Registration requirements
- A person entitled to vote shall be:
- A United States citizen
- A resident of California
- Not imprisoned or on parole for the conviction of a felony
- At least 18 years of age at the time of the next election (CA Elections Code Sec. 2101)
- A person entitled to preregister to vote in an election shall be a United States citizen, a resident of California, not imprisoned or on parole for the conviction of a felony, and at least 16 years of age. (CA Elections Code Sec. 210)

May I register to vote using my business address or a P.O. Box?
No. A person may only register to vote at place of residence. A business address or a P.O. Box number may only be used as a mailing address.

You need to re-register when you change your address, name or change your political party choice.

After the Citizenship and Immigration Services ceremony, you may register to vote.

Can I vote if I’ve been incarcerated or a part of the criminal justice system?
Yes, you can vote if you are:
- On probation or parole
- Under post-release community supervision
- Under mandatory supervision
- Awaiting trial (no felony conviction)
- Serving a sentence in jail due to a misdemeanor conviction

I’m between 16 or 17 years old. Can I register to vote?
You can pre-register to vote and you will be automatically registered to vote when you turn 18 years old.

When do I need to register to vote for the November 5,2022 General Municipal Election?
The last day to register to vote is May 18, 2026, 15 days before Election Day (June 2, 2026). You can register by visiting https://registertovote.ca.gov/
If you miss the deadline, you must register to vote in person at the LA County Registrar-Recorder’s office OR at any Vote Center in LA County.

Is the 24 Hr-Ballot Drop Box secure?
The 24-Hr ballot drop box is constructed of full stainless-steel with many security features. The box is secured to the ground using concrete fasteners on the inside of the box so that no bolts are exposed. The slot is small enough for only a ballot to get through and has protections against liquid and graffiti.

When will the ballots be retrieved?
Ballots will be retrieved by the LA County Registrar-Recorder’s Office on a weekly basis at the beginning of the voting period. Pick-up will increase as it gets closer to Election Day. All boxes will be secured at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

When does voting begin?
- Vote by Mail Ballot mailing begins on October 3, 2024 through October 29, 2024.
- In-person voting begins at Vote Centers on October 26, 2024.

Will I automatically receive a Vote by Mail Ballot?
Yes, all registered voters in LA County will be mailed a Vote by Mail Ballot beginning May 4, 2026 without request.

What if I don't receive a Vote by Mail Ballot in the mail?
- A voter can request a replacement ballot by filling out an application online or contacting the LA County Registrar-Recorder's Office at 800-815-2666; or
- Vote in-person at any Vote Center in LA County.

What if I forgot to sign the envelope?
- LA County Registrar-Recorder’s Office will mail an “Unsigned Ballot Statement” requesting your signature

Am I required to show ID to vote?
The only time you will need to show an ID to vote is if you are a first-time voter and did not provide your CA Driver's License Number, State ID Number, or the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number when completing your voter registration.

What is an Interactive Sample Ballot?
The Interactive Sample Ballot is an option for voters who want to access and digitally mark their selections prior to arriving at the vote center (in lieu of the paper sample booklet) using a computer, mobile phone or personal device (https://isb.lavote.net/).

Can someone return a ballot on my behalf?
Yes, voters who cannot return their Vote by Mail ballot can designate any person to return their ballot as long as there is no compensation involved for the individual, group or organization returning the ballot.

How long after Election Day will ballots still count?
Vote by Mail Ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received no later than 7 days after Election Day will be processed, verified, and counted.

When should I return my Vote by Mail Ballot?
The Secretary of State recommends returning ballots as soon as it's received. Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received not later than 7 days after Election Day.
To ensure your ballot is postmarked by Election Day make sure to mail it at least 5 days before Election Day, June 2, 2026.
If mailing on Election Day, it is recommended to obtain a manual postmark from a postal employee inside a United States Post Office.
