LONG BEACH – On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, City Clerk Monique De La Garza deployed her staff to Long Beach high schools for what became the most successful National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) in the City of Long Beach to date.
In 2017, the Office of the City Clerk partnered with Long Beach City College on NVRD to successfully register to vote 91 students and provided a combined student contact of 168. This year, the impact was exponential. In all, the City Clerk’s Office pre-registered 567 and registered 38 students to vote. The combined student contact was 1,384.

Thanks to the growing partnership with LBUSD and Superintendent of High Schools Dr. Peter Davis, the Office of the City Clerk gained access to Cabrillo, Jordan, Poly, Millikan, Wilson, and McBride High Schools.
“It is evident by the success of our outreach effort that our youngest voters are energized for the midterm elections. Even students who pre-registered to vote demonstrated their civic pride. This could mean the beginning of a higher voter turnout in Long Beach,” said Monique De La Garza.
