Office of the City Clerk

LONG BEACH – On Monday, July 15, 2019, the City of Long Beach, Office of the City Clerk, will host a Candidate Workshop at 10:00 am in the Council Chambers located at 333 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802. The Special Municipal Election was called and ordered by the Mayor and City Council at the July 9, 2019, City Council meeting to fill the existing vacancy in Council District 1.

The Candidate Workshop will kick-off the start of the nomination period, which opens Monday, July 15, 2019, and closes at 5:00 PM on Friday, August 9, 2019.

Due to the move to the new City Hall located at 411 W. Ocean Blvd, the Office of the City Clerk will be closed on Friday, July 26, 2019, and Monday, July 29, 2019. Starting Tuesday, July 30, 2019, the new location for the Office of the City Clerk will be at 411 W. Ocean Blvd., 11th Floor. All candidates and visitors will need to check in with the front desk receptionist in the lobby. To ensure that candidates are assisted promptly, they are asked to make an appointment ahead of time.

Should a candidate not be available to pick up a Nomination Packet in-person, they are asked to visit the City Clerk’s website, download and fill out the Authorization to Receive Nomination Documents form. This form allows the City Clerk to provide the Nomination Packet to the candidate’s named designee.

The workshop will cover all pertinent candidate information, and the consolidation of this and future elections with the Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s office. Monique De La Garza, City Clerk, stated “The City Clerk’s office strives to be a one-stop-shop for members of the public interested in running for office. We continue to strive to make the information in the Candidate Handbook relevant and easy to read, and understand.”

Candidate Handbooks will be available at the Candidate Workshop and on the City Clerk's website.
