United States House of Representatives

The United States House of Representatives is a legislative chamber in the bicameral legislature of the United States, and together with the U.S. Senate makes up the United States Congress. Each U.S. Representative, also referred to as Congressmember, is elected to a two-year term serving the people of a specific Congressional district. The number of voting Representatives in the House is fixed by law at no more than 435, proportionally representing the population of the 50 States. The following members of Congress represent the City of Long Beach. 


Congressmember Robert Garcia, 42nd District

Garcia was elected to represent California’s 42nd Congressional District, including Long Beach and Southeast Los Angeles, in November 2022. Congressman Robert Garcia is a career educator, who served two terms as the Mayor of Long Beach, California. Congressman Garcia immigrated to the United States as a young child and was raised in Southern California, becoming a proud U.S. citizen in his 20's. He holds an M.A. from the University of Southern California and an Ed.D. in Higher Education from Cal State Long Beach, where he also earned his B.A. in Communications.

Congressman Robert Garcia serves as the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, where works alongside his colleagues in taking on government corruption, abuses of power, and reforming our government to be more effective and efficient. He also serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee which has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation, including the aviation system, highways and bridges, transit and rail transportation, pipelines, and maritime and waterborne transportation.

Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán, 44TH DISTRICT

Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán is proud to represent California’s 44th Congressional District, which includes North Long Beach. Rep. Barragán was born in Harbor City, California and grew up in Carson and the surrounding area. She lives in San Pedro, CA. Rep. Barragán began her congressional career in January of 2017.

Congresswoman Nanette Barragán was appointed to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce in 2019, becoming the first Latina in 10 years to hold a seat on this prestigious committee and only the second Latina ever to do so. On the committee, Rep. Barragán serves as a voice for the communities that have been on the frontlines of the negative health impacts associated with climate change and environmental injustice. She serves on the subcommittees of Communications and Technology, Environment, and Health.
