Beach Concession Improvements
The City began conducting the planning and preliminary design process for the Beach Concession Building Improvements in 2016. After many community meetings to gather input and evaluate the sites’ opportunities and constraints, the City and its architectural team revised the designs for each location.

Alamitos
The existing Alamitos Beach Concession Building is composed of three sections: food concession, recreational beach rentals (such as bikes, paddle boards, etc.) and public restrooms. The location is uniquely situated with views of Long Beach Shoreline Marina and Rainbow Harbor to the west and the Long Beach shoreline to the east.
The proposed design has received approval from the City’s Planning Department and the California Coastal Commission. The new facility is a two-story café with concession window and rooftop deck for everyone to enjoy. It replaces a one-story concession stand and will anchor the northwest end of Alamitos Beach and offer a new 5,500 square foot outdoor play area and games corner, along with new restrooms and sports rental/retail facility.
The existing building will be demolished and new construction will commence Spring 2019, following the Grand Prix.

Junipero
The Junipero Beach Concession building is south of Ocean Blvd. and Junipero Avenue. Already a popular beach destination, the City is proposing to further activate the site by installing improved access around the facility and adding new basketball courts, children’s play area, adult fitness station, and improving the façade of the concession-facing portion. The Junipero Beach rental/retail space is adjacent to public restrooms and the Concession area. It offers 592 square feet of secure storage space and vendors would have the opportunity to supply bicycles, kayaks, paddleboards, and other sporting goods for day rentals.
The project has received Coastal Commission approval. Construction is anticipated to commence in 2019 and the site will be ready for tenant improvements in early 2020, anticipating a Summer 2020 opening.
Granada
The Granada Beach Concession building is located south of Ocean Blvd. and Granada Ave. The location serves as a popular destination for volleyball, kite surfing and Rosie’s Dog Beach. Updated concession and sport rentals will offer fun, new options for beachgoers at this site. The City is proposing further improvements to the area by installing improved access around the facility, adding new recreational amenities for children’s water play and adult fitness, a new dog rinse station, and improving the façade of the concession-facing portion.
The project has received Coastal Commission approval. Construction is anticipated to commence in late 2019 and ready for tenant improvements in early 2020, anticipating a Summer 2020 opening.
