Background Information
On February 12, 2013, the City Council approved a preliminary plan for the revitalization of the Belmont Plaza Pool. The pool was closed to the public on January 10, 2013 after it was deemed seismically unsafe in the event of a moderate earthquake. The Belmont Plaza Pool is a valuable asset and icon for the City. It has a rich history of providing a wide variety of competitive swimming events and recreational activities for residents of all ages and abilities. The City is committed to building an iconic new facility. Meanwhile, the aquatics community in Long Beach has access to a temporary Belmont Pool facility. The temporary Olympic-length pool is made out of stainless steel with a vinyl lining. It can be configured to have 10 50-meter lanes or 18 25-meter lanes, with ample opportunities for recreational and lap swimming, water exercise classes, competitive swimming and high school and collegiate water polo programs.
