Economic Research

The Economic Development Department collects, coordinates, and makes available key economic information to help entrepreneurs and investors better understand the economic opportunities available to them. Additionally, the department tracks and reports key performance indicators related to the City’s economic development goals and programs.

Economic Development Support Analysis

In September 2015, the City of Long Beach commissioned Beacon Economics, LLC with developing multiple reports that would facilitate a more focused dialogue about economic conditions within the City.

The reports provide essential background information on the City’s economy, its workforce, and its residents that may serve as a reference as the City undertakes strategic economic and policy decisions that will help shape the future of the City. Moreover, they contain metrics that can be used to establish economic development, workforce, and other goals, and track progress toward those goals.

Economic Impact Study

The City of Long Beach has received a Research Award as part of the 2017 Gateways for Growth (G4G) Challenge. The G4G Research Award will result in a customized report that highlights the economic and demographic impacts of immigrants and refugees locally, including their tax contributions and spending power, roles in the local labor force, and population and demographic trends.

Research generated by the effort will provide a baseline understanding for the City, policy makers, and community-based organizations to build from to better support and include the individuals and families who immigrate to Long Beach. This report is expected to be released in January 2018.
