Cal State Long Beach will open 16 classrooms in Downtown next year as part of the city’s larger plan to revitalize the area and focus on workforce development, officials said Wednesday.
The classes under the university’s College of Professional and International Education will be held in a six-block mixed-use district between Long Beach Boulevard and Pine Avenue from Third to Sixth Street, now referred to as “The Streets.”
The classes will include project management, cybersecurity, social work and other subjects that can benefit professional growth in the city’s westside and downtown business districts. The rooms, with up to 400 seats total, also will provide additional space for overflow on the main campus.
Officials said the 10-year, $1 million agreement with Cal State Long Beach, which was approved by the City Council on Tuesday, will set the stage for economic development training, education and community partnerships.
