Rising Up: Central Long Beach Parking Lot to Become 7-Story Apartment Complex

Release Date: 2019-10-11

By: Hayley Munguia

A parking lot in Central Long Beach will soon become a seven-story housing development.

Locust Long Beach Apartments at 1112 Locust Ave., which will offer 97 apartments, is one of nine similar housing projects that has been proposed or approved in recent years in the area bounded by the Pacific Coast Highway and 10th Street to the north and south, and Pacific Avenue and Atlantic Avenue to the west and east.

The building, which will be constructed with stucco, glass and textured board concrete, will be designed in shades of gray with a few bursts of yellow. The concept will also incorporate large windows, brushed aluminum door and window frames and metal awnings.

As for whether the structure will fit in with the surrounding neighborhood, architect Shahab Ghods said Friday, Oct. 11, “we wouldn’t design it if it didn’t.”

Unlike some other housing developments in the area, the structure will be completely residential, from the ground up.
