Qualifications & Experience
What are the minimum qualifications to apply?

Be a current undergraduate student on track to complete a Bachelor's degree from CSULB or CSUDH by May 2026

Or current Graduate student on track to complete a Master's degree from CSULB or CSUDH by May 2026

Or current undergraduate student on track to complete a Career Technical Education program at LBCC by June 2026

Or recently graduated from CSULB or CSUDH in Spring or Summer 2025

- Be between the ages of 18-30 on 8/4/25
- Be able to provide right to work documents as listed on the USCIS I-9 List of Acceptable Documents
- Be able to work 15 hours a week Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-6pm
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.0
- Be connected to Long Beach (School or Residence)
Are DACA students eligible?
DACA students are eligible to apply. If selected, candidate will be required to provide right to work documentation as listed on the USCIS I-9 List of Acceptable Documents.
Do I need to have any experience in public service?
You do not need to have any experience. However, we ask that you have a desire to learn more about the public sector.
Are international students eligible?
International students are eligible to apply. If selected, candidate will be required to provide right to work documentation as listed on the USCIS I-9 List of Acceptable Documents.
Can I apply if I am not attending CSULB, CSUDH, or LBCC?
You are encouraged to apply, but priority will be given to applicants who attend CSULB, CSUDH, or LBCC.
Application & Interviews
When is the deadline to apply for this Cohort of Long Beach Public Service Corps?
The deadline is Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11:59PM PST. No exceptions will be made for late applications.
Will I need to provide recommendation letters to apply?
No. Recommendation letters are not part of the application submission process.
Can I submit an unofficial transcript instead of an official transcript?
Yes! We are requesting unofficial transcripts only, which should show your Fall 2025 classes.
Will I be able to edit my application responses before the application deadline?
No. Once you submit, your application cannot be updated.
When will applicants hear if they will be invited for an interview?
Applicants who have been invited to the interview stage of the application process will be contacted via phone in July 2025.
Will the interviews be in-person?
Interviews will be in-person at the Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network - Youth Career Services Center in July 2025.
Will it be a panel interview or a 1-1?
They will be panel interviews with representation from Economic Development and Human Resources.
What happens if I have a conflict during the interview schedule or I miss my interview?
All interviews must be conducted within the interview period. Special exceptions apply.
Can I still apply to LBPSC if I've previously participated?
You are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to individuals who have not previously participated.
I don't live in Long Beach. Can I still apply?
Priority will be given to individuals who are connected to Long Beach, but all are encouraged to apply.
I live in Long Beach and will be entering my final year in college, but I do not go to LBCC, CSUDH, or CSULB. Can I still apply?
Yes, you are still encouraged to apply.
Placements
Would it be possible to do a fully remote fellowship?
While there is a possibility of some remote placement options, most placements will be hybrid or fully in-person. Some activities and workshops will also be in-person.
What if I don't like my placement?
This will be determined on a case-by-case basis. A lot of effort goes into the matching based off of things such as your major, your career interests, your desire for public service, and your availability to participate.
Will I be able to work at multiple departments?
No. You will only be able to work at one department for the entirety of the Fellowship.
Compensation
Is this a paid internship?
The fellowship will be paid at an hourly rate of $22.00.
How often will I be paid?
We have a bi-weekly pay period system. Every 2 weeks, you would report your hours that you worked, and you would be paid for those hours 2 weeks later.
Will there be supportive services offered to eliminate barriers for employment?
Yes. The program is able to provide up to $500.00 in supportive services throughout the entire fellowship for things such as transportation and clothing. Note that supportive services are based on need and subject to approval.
Is there a maximum number of hours I can work per week?
Yes. You are able to work between 15-30 hours per week.
How many hours in total is the fellowship?
800.
Conclusion
What happens after the fellowship concludes in June 2026?
Upon completion of the fellowship, your case manager will continue to work with you to make progress towards your career and educational goals.
Will I be guaranteed a job after the fellowship concludes?
No. It is not guaranteed that you will be employed when the fellowship concludes. However, our staff will be able to provide you with job search assistance, navigating jobs, employment opportunities, interview preparation, etc.
