How long will it take to complete an application for Cohort 4 of LBPSC?
If you do not already have a GovernmentJobs account, you will need to create one. The length of time varies per individual. In addition to providing answers to standard questions, some prompts require additional input/thought. -
When is the deadline to apply for Cohort 4 of Long Beach Public Service Corps?
The deadline is June 9, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Will I need to provide recommendation letters to apply?
No. Recommendation letters are not part of the application submission process.

Can I submit an unofficial transcript instead of an official transcript?
Yes! We are requesting unofficial transcripts. The transcript should show your Fall 2026 classes or should show that you graduated.

Will I be able to edit my application responses before the application deadline?
No. Once you submit, your application cannot be updated.

Can I still apply to LBPSC if I've previously participated?
You are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to individuals who have not previously participated.

I don't live in Long Beach. Can I still apply?
Priority will be given to individuals who are connected to Long Beach, but all are encouraged to apply.

I live in Long Beach and will be entering my final year in college, but I do not attend CSUDH or CSULB, can I still apply?
Yes, you are still encouraged to apply.

I live in Long Beach and have recently graduated, but I did not attend CSULB or CSUDH, can I still apply?
Yes, you are still encouraged to apply.

Is there a maximum number of applications that will be received?
No. Applications will remain open regardless of the amount received until the June 9, 2026 deadline.
Interview

When will applicants hear if they will be invited for an interview?
Applicants who have been invited to the interview stage of the application process will be contacted via phone or email in early June 2026.

Will interviews be in-person?
Interviews will be in-person at the Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network Youth Career Services Center in June 2026. Location and dates are subject to change.

Will interviews be a panel or 1-1?
They will be panel interviews with representation from Economic Development & Opportunity and Human Resources.

What happens if I have a conflict during the interview schedule or I miss my interview?
All interviews must be conducted within the interview period.
Compensation

Is this a paid internship?
Yes. LBPSC Corpsmembers will be paid at an hourly rate of $25.09.

If selected, how often would I be paid?
We utilize a bi-weekly pay period system.

Will there be supportive services offered to eliminate barriers for employment?
Yes. The program is able to provide up to $500.00 in supportive services throughout the entire program, to eliminate barriers that would prevent you from being able to get to and from your job placement. This can include things such as transportation and clothing assistance.

Is there a maximum number of hours I can work per week?
Yes. You are able to work between 15-30 hours per week.

How many hours is the entire program?
The program will last between 800-1,000 hours.
Selection

If selected, is there a minimum number of hours that I have to work per week?
Yes, you are expected to work at least 15 hours per week.

If selected, is there a maximum number of hours that I can work per week?
Yes, you are not allowed to work over 30 hours per week.

When will we hear if we were selected for the 4th Cohort of LBPSC?
All applicants will be notified of decisions by July 2, 2026.

How many Corpsmembers will be in Cohort 4 of LBPSC?
There will be approximately 30 Corpsmembers in Cohort 4.
Timeline

What is the timeline for LBPSC?
Application Closes: 6/9/26 at 11:59 p.m. PST
Interviews: June 15, 2026 – June 25, 2026
Selection: July 2, 2026
Onboarding & Professional Development: July 2026 – August 2026
Work Experience: September 2026 – August 2027

If selected, will I receive a detailed timeline of activities with dates, times and locations?
A general timeline of activities will be provided. Specific details will be provided as soon as staff are able to share.
Placement

Would it be possible to do a fully remote internship?
While there is a possibility of some remote placement options, most placements will be hybrid or fully in-person. Many activities and workshops will also be in-person.

What if I don't like my placement?
There are many factors that are considered when it comes to matching, such as your major, career interests, desire for public service, and your availability to participate. If you are selected, you would be 1 of 30 fellows matched to a site, making this a competitive program. All worksites are meant to provide you with mentorship and meaningful experience.

Will I be able to work at multiple departments?
No. You will only be able to work at one department for the entirety of the program.
Conclusion

What happens after the program concludes in August 2027?
Upon completion of the program, your case manager and/or support staff will continue to work with you to make progress towards your career and educational goals.

Will I be guaranteed a job after the program concludes?
No. It is not guaranteed that you will be employed when the program concludes. However, our staff will be able to provide you with job search assistance, navigating jobs, employment opportunities, interview preparation, and more.
