Passing of Firefighter Otis Reid
Release Date: 2018-01-03In Memoriam; today we remember and honor Firefighter Otis Reid. Mr. Reid was the first African American Firefighter hired by the Long Beach Fire Department. We are sad to announce of his passing on December 23rd, 2017. He graduated from our own Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1952, and resided in town off of Olive Ave. Mr. Reid was hired by the Fire Department on July 1, 1962. He faithfully attended Christ Second Baptist Church where reverend Herman Gore was the pastor. He retired from the Long Beach Fire Department in December of 1989. Otis is survived by his wife, Cherry and two children, Crystal and Christopher. Mr. Reid, thank you for your service and dedication to the Long Beach Fire Department. #SemperParatus #yourlbfd
