Effective immediately, the City of Long Beach has closed all area beaches and waterways due to lightning strikes that have occurred on local area beaches to the south of Long Beach and off shore. The Belmont Pier has also been closed. The inclement weather poses an extreme risk to those participating in water-based activities such as boating, swimming, and surfing.

Long Beach Lifeguards are patrolling the beach and advising everyone in close proximity to the water to use extreme caution. It is imperative for the sake of public safety that all people stay out of the water.

The duration of the closure will be dependent on the continued lightning activity in the area. As soon as the weather clears, the City of Long Beach will re-open our beaches, Pier, and local waterways.

Your immediate attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
