Long Beach, CA – Today, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) Chief Dennis Buchanan  announced the appointment of Assistant Chief John Davis, as the newest member of the Long Beach Fire Department Command Staff.

Your dedication, expertise, and leadership will undoubtedly drive our department to new heights.”

Assistant Chief John Davis

Assistant Chief John Davis began his career with the Long Beach Fire Department in 1998. After spending two years as a Firefighter, he was assigned as a Firefighter/Paramedic from 2000 to 2005. He promoted to Fire Captain in 2005 and worked various assignments such as EMS Captain/Paramedic Coordinator and Rescue Boat Captain.  Chief Davis was promoted to Battalion Chief in 2022 and worked in the field before being assigned to Fire Headquarters as Battalion Chief of Operations. 

Chief Davis has been involved in numerous committees and working groups to enhance our Department and Community. He has been part of our Critical Incident Stress Management Team for over 20 years and was the Team Leader for 4 years.  He has been involved with our Urban Search and Rescue Team and Fireboat Program as well. Chief Davis also recently completed the Leadership Long Beach Institute program. He is a California State University, Long Beach graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education.  Prior to working for Long Beach Fire Department, he worked as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Cities of Garden Grove and Monterey Park. He was also an Auxiliary Firefighter with the City of Downey.  Chief Davis is a fourth-generation Long Beach resident and currently lives in the city with his wife Jennifer and two children. 

He will be joining the following members of the Fire Department Command Staff:

Fire Chief Dennis Buchanan
Fire Chief Buchanan has been with the Long Beach Fire Department for over 29 years.

Deputy Chief Robbie Grego
Deputy Chief Grego is currently assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau, as the City Fire Marshal. He has been with the Long Beach Fire Department for over 28 years. 

Deputy Chief Jeff Hardin
Deputy Chief Hardin is currently assigned to the Operations Bureau. He has been with the Long Beach Fire Department for over 25 years.

Deputy Chief Donald Anderson
Deputy Chief Anderson is currently assigned to the Support Services Bureau. He has been with the Long Beach Fire Department for over 25 years.

Assistant Chief Jason Hosea
Assistant Chief Hosea is currently assigned to the Operations Bureau. He has been with the Long Beach Fire Department for 27 years.

Assistant Chief Karen Rindone
Assistant Chief Rindone is currently assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau. She has been with the Long Beach Fire Department for 19 years.

Marine Safety Chief Gonzalo Medina
Marine Safety Chief Medina is currently the Marine Safety Division Chief. He has been with the Long Beach Fire Department for 28 years.

Bureau Manager Maura Ventura
Bureau Manager Ventura is currently assigned to the Administration Bureau. She has been with the Fire Department for six months and has worked for the City of Long Beach for 14 years. 

Administrative Officer Sarah Green
Administrative Officer Green is currently assigned to the Administration Bureau. She has been with the Fire Department for nearly two years and has worked for the City of Long Beach for six years.
