City of Long Beach Deploys Incident Management Team members to Coleman Fire in Central California.
Several years ago, the City of Long Beach identified the need to create a Type III Incident Management Team (IMT) to better prepare the City in the event of a major emergency.
This morning, for the first time, since the inception of the program, 6 Firefighters and 3 Police Officers from the City of Long Beach Type III Incident Management Team deployed to the Coleman Fire, in Central California. These individuals have been assigned to this incident as trainees and will seek certification in their specific IMT assignments by demonstrating competencies as outlined in their respective Position Task Books.
This first deployment is the culmination of a four-year, citywide effort to train and certify a federally recognized Type III Incident Management Team. This team is made up of members representing multiple City departments. As the program continues to expand and develop, additional members of this team will be trained and certified.
Once the team is certified, the Long Beach Incident Management Team will be one of a limited number of Type III teams across the Nation. The primary responsibility for the team will be to manage incidents within the City. This team may also serve as a mutual aid resource that could be deployed throughout the state and region.
