Long Beach Fire Department Units responded to an industrial fire early this morning (0402 hours) on the 3200 block of Cherry Ave.  The first arriving unit found heavy smoke coming from the roof with no visible fire until entry was made. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished within a few minutes.  The "vacuum induction melting plant" uses large furnaces to melt metals into alloys which are then used by the aircraft industry.  The fire is seemed to have originated from one of the many large furnaces in the industrial plant. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no firefighter nor civilian injuries reported.
