Shortly before 7 am this morning,  Long Beach Fire Department units responded to the Paradise Gardens Apartments on the 6400 block of Atlantic Ave.  First arriving units found fire and smoke coming from the kitchen of a first floor apartment.  A 2nd Alarm assignment was dispatched when it was discovered that the fire had communicated to the unit directly above through a void space in the wall.  The bulk of the fire was extinguished within 45 minutes, however, units remained on scene given the lengthy salvage and overhaul operation.  Two families were displaced by the fire and are temporarily being housed in some unoccupied units in the same apartment complex.  No injuries were reported and the fire is still under investigation.
