At approximately 10:50 am on July 24, 2016, Long Beach Fire Department units responded to a structure fire in an apartment over a business on the 1000 block of E. Broadway Ave.

First in units reported heavy fire showing from an apartment on the second floor.  A second alarm response was immediately called due to the size of the building, the fire conditions, and the potential for life loss.

The fire was knocked down in approximately ten minutes.  The apartment in which the fire originated sustained heavy fire damage and three neighboring apartments sustained heavy smoke damage.  The business below is also closed due water damage.

Three firefighters were transported to local hospitals due to heat exhaustion.  No civilians were injured.

A total of 49 firefighters responded to this incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
