At approximately 7:06 PM, Long Beach Fire units responded to reports of a structure fire on the 800 block of Chestnut Avenue. At 7:06 PM, Engine 3 arrived onscene and reported smoke and fire showing from the front unit of a single story four-plex apartment complex. Fire units initiated an aggressive fire attack and confined the fire to the front bedroom of the involved unit. Knockdown of the fire and completion of the primary search was completed at 7:12 PM.

There were 3 residents at home when the incident occurred. They were alerted to the fire from the activation of a smoke detector. All residents were out of the apartment unit when the fire department arrived onscene. Neighbors attempted to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher but were unsuccessful with their efforts. A total of 8 residents live in the two bedroom apartment and were subsequently displaced by the fire. Each resident has been relocated by the property owner. The apartment is a transitional living facility. There were no reports of injuries.

At the height of the fire, there were a total of 22 firefighters assigned to the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
