Support Services Bureau
The Support Services Bureau is managed by a Deputy Chief and an Assistant Chief, with clerical support staff. The Support Services Bureau is responsible for management of the following:
- Training Division
- Regional Training Group (Los Angeles Area Fire Chiefs’ Association)
- Homeland Security Grants
- ISA (Instructional Services Agreement)
- Emergency Medical Services Division
- Information Technology
- Fire Fleet and Apparatus Management
The Training Division is responsible for conducting the following:
- Recruit academies
- Probationary testing and evaluations
- In-service training and education of fire personnel
- Utilizing a variety of training methods and resources
- Including video- and technology-based programs
- Promotional Exams
The Homeland Security Grants include the following:
- Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI)
- State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSGP)
- Port Security Grant Program (PSGP)
- Overall Grant Management
- Project requests/submissions
- Grant allocations and reimbursements
- Grant oversight for USAR, HazMat, CERT, Fireboat, TEMS, the Regional Training Center and Marine Safety
- ISA (Instructional Service Agreement) associated with East Los Angeles Community College
- Collecting in-service training hours bi-annually and managing course deliveries under the ISA agreement
The Emergency Medical Services Division (EMS) has administrative and operational responsibility for the following:
- The design and delivery of all EMS system activities, including the certification of all uniformed personnel
- Certification of all LBFD firefighters, Ambulance Operators, Marine Safety Officers, and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT)
- Continuing education and quality improvement for Paramedics and EMTs
