New Separated Bike Lanes Debut on Costa Del Sol Way

The City of Long Beach recently added separated bike lanes along Costa Del Sol Way between Loynes Drive and Jack Nichol Park. The road segment is among the first in the city to use concrete separators between bike and vehicle traffic lanes, a design choice that can improve cyclists’ safety and confidence in riding.

The project was coordinated with scheduled road maintenance on Costa Del Sol to minimize costs and disruption to neighbors. Additional work planned for this year will add separated bike lanes along Loynes Drive from Bellflower Blvd. to Pacific Coast Highway, connecting this segment to a larger network and creating a separated bikeway all the way from Jack Nichol Park to beyond the CSU Long Beach campus.
