Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach will continue to deploy its Mobile Access Center (MAC) in select areas throughout April. Beginning Monday, April 3, the MAC will be stationed at the following locations from 9 a.m. to noon:
The MAC was deployed to these same locations throughout March and, as of March 29, the MAC reached 237 people experiencing homelessness and connected 162 people to services, including referral and transport to shelter, enrollment into the homeless services system, connections to community resources, and basic medical services. By continuing focused outreach in these same areas throughout April, Homeless Services Bureau staff will continue to be able to conduct meaningful engagement and build relationships, an essential component in increasing access to resources and services. After deploying the MAC in the downtown area during January and February, there was a 15 percent increase in people accepting services, going from 51% in January to 66% in February.
The MAC is a critical asset for the City’s emergency response efforts and mission to reduce the number of residents experiencing homelessness, as it significantly lowers barriers to providing case management services and other resources for people experiencing homelessness. Unlike other forms of street outreach, the MAC allows outreach staff to start the intake process right on the street and offers nearly everything available at the MSC.
