Housing Voucher Programs

Housing Choice Vouchers help make rent more affordable for low-income individuals and families in Long Beach. Funded by the federal government, these vouchers help people pay rent in privately owned housing.

Many participants also receive supportive services to help them stay housed and thrive.

Rent assistance for low-income individuals and families to lease units in the private market

PBV (Project-Based Voucher)

Rental subsidy tied to specific affordable housing units for low-income households

EHV (Emergency Housing Voucher)

Time-limited vouchers for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, referred through CES

FYI (Foster Youth to Independence)

Rental assistance and supportive services for youth (18–24) exiting foster care

VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing)

Permanent housing with case management for veterans experiencing homelessness

SPC (Shelter Plus Care)

Long-term rental assistance with behavioral health services for people living with serious mental illness or substance use disorders

Stability Vouchers

Long-term housing support for individuals facing housing instability, referred via CES
