Program Overview

Property owners interested in constructing ADUs can now save time and money on their projects with the City’s Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit Program (PAADU). These beautiful designs provide owners the ability to better understand costs associated with construction, a preview of what to expect and ease of design planning. To preview pre-approved ADU designs, please visit the PAADU webpage.

PAADU plans and permit applications may be approved Over-The-Counter (OTC) at the Permit Center with the assistance from the Planning and Building & Safety Bureaus. Upon approval, a building permit can be issued the same day. For more information about the permitting process, or to schedule an appointment and apply for an ADU construction permit, please visit the Permit Center webpage.

Planning is your first step when looking to construct an ADU on your property. Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Units (PAADUs) require compliance with the City of Long Beach ADU Regulations. Please visit the Planning Bureau for more information.

PAADU-02 – New (415 sf) 1-story, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom with (23 sf) covered entry
   
PAADU-03 – New (876sf) 1-story, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom with (132 sf) patio cover
   
PAADU-04 – New (362 sf) 1-story, studio with Lt ga steel framing
   
PAADU-06 – New (939 sf) 1-story, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, with (444 sf) carport, raised deck and roof deck over carport
   
PAADU-07 – New (536 sf) 1-story, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom
