There are a number of homebuyer assistance and loan programs available through the California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA). View the federal, state, and local programs and resources below for program specifics and eligbility requirements.

Homebuyer Programs and Resources

The City of Long Beach currently offers a First-Time Homebuyer Assistance Program designed to assist low- and moderate-income families traditionally underrepresented in homeownership with purchasing their first home and building multi-generational wealth. Approximately 100 households will receive up to $25,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance.

The California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA) supports the needs of renters and homebuyers by providing financing and programs that create safe, decent, and affordable housing opportunities for low to moderate income California residents. CalHFA is a self-supporting State agency that relies on revenues generated through mortgage loans rather than taxpayer dollars.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers a variety of resources on fair housing issues, lists for lenders and real estate brokers, and homebuyer education information.


Affordable Housing Clearinghouse (AHC) is a HUD Certified Housing Counseling Organization serving Southern California since 1991. AHC has HUD Certified Housing Counselors offering pre-purchase, homebuyer education, post purchase and foreclosure prevention in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. ACH Affordable Housing Services and Programs are offered in-house, over the phone or in group sessions. NHS is a non-profit lender and community developer opening access to affordable home loans, home rehab, foreclosure prevention, financial education and homeownership counseling. For more than 34 years, NHS has served communities across Los Angeles County and strengthened neighborhoods, helping to improve the quality of life for families in need.

Home Preservation & Prevention (HPP) CARES is a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved housing counseling agency based in Long Beach. HPP CARES provide financial education on a range of topics from first home-buying and preventing foreclosure (mortgage relief & forbearance options), to the sound use of credit and effective debt management.
