Announced in April, the new Long Beach Renter Aid Program will provide $2.7 million in short-term financial assistance to renters at risk of eviction, helping up to 1,000 low-income households remain in stable housing. Combined with existing funding for eviction defense and tenant education, the program is part of Upstream LB, the City’s prevention-first strategy focused on addressing housing instability before it leads to displacement. Funding for these efforts comes largely from Los Angeles County Measure A, a dedicated fund for renter protections and homelessness prevention.
The program can help cover overdue rent, utility bills, short-term rental assistance and relocation costs, while also connecting residents to supportive services for long-term stability. Priority will be given to older adults, households facing immediate eviction and those impacted by federal policy changes. Applications are available in multiple languages, with the first application window closing May 8 and additional monthly opportunities opening through the summer. This work builds on the City’s broader commitment to housing security and protecting vulnerable residents across Long Beach.
