AMERICAN LEGION POST #560 (HOUGHTON POST)

am_legion

The building is significant for its historic value as the last remaining American Legion post in Long Beach. The building is an undistinguished vernacular commercial building moved from an adjoining site in 1945. Its prior use was as a market; it was built sometime in the Twenties. The post is associated with people prominent in Long Beach history, such as the Houghton family, Carl Peterson (a World War I flying ace), Eddie Rickenbacher and Harry Truman.
