MARINE STADIUM

marine

Located on the southeastern edge of Long Beach, this water course was created for the 1932 Olympic rowing competition for the Xth Olympiad in Los Angeles by dredging and straightening a portion of Alamitos Bay. The U.S. team won the gold medal in the competition. The stadium was subsequently used for the 1968 and 1976 U.S. men's Olympic rowing trials and the 1984 U.S. women's rowing trials. Today it is operated by the City's Parks Recreation and Marine Department for numerous water events, classes, competitions and training.
