McBRIDE HOME

This modest home without architectural significance has great cultural value as the residence of Ernest McBride, civil rights leader and activist. McBride and his wife moved there in 1948, and launched a career of civil rights advocacy which resulted in significant social change in Long Beach. As co-founder and Secretary of the Long Beach Chapter of the NAACP, he particularly fought for desegregation in housing (beginning with his own house) and in jobs.
