Sunnyside Cemetary at Willow Street and California Avenue is a very historic site, designated by the City on June 19, 2000. It is the only Civil War veterans cemetery in Long Beach, with approximately 200 graves of former Union Soldiers who fought with the Grand Army of the Republic. It is also the resting place of many prominent people important to the history of Long Beach. After a period of turmoil and misfortune, the cemetery today is in the hands of a non-profit organization, the Friends of Sunnyside, who are restoring it and ensuring that it remains a place of dignity and respect.
