The City of Long Beach is exploring a Zoning Code update that will address the regulation of e-commerce and delivery-only retailers throughout the city. As a result of the pandemic and recent technological advancements, the demand for e-commerce and delivery retail, or non-storefront businesses such as ghost kitchens, distribution centers and cannabis retailers, has increased over the past few years. The Zoning Code amendment will focus on addressing current impacts while anticipating future retail trends and e-commerce opportunities.
In October 2021, the City Council directed staff to explore zoning regulations for non-storefront businesses. City staff will be using the input received to complete a draft Zoning Code amendment for review by the City Council in late 2022. For more information, view the City's press release.
